@raniasultan

Social Security 4.7% raise? The good news is hiding a much bigger crisis!
New projections suggest Social Security benefits in America could rise by as much as 4.7% in 2027, a major jump compared with the 2.8% increase in 2026. But before people celebrate, there is one important detail: this number is not official yet. The final COLA will be announced in October after third-quarter inflation data is calculated.
And the bigger question is: is this really good news? Or is it a sign that prices are still hurting retirees? COLA is not a bonus. It is an adjustment meant to help seniors keep up with rising costs for gas, food, housing, healthcare, and everyday life.
At the same time, a much bigger crisis is getting closer. The trustees’ report says the Social Security retirement trust fund could become insolvent by the end of 2032. If Congress does not act, beneficiaries may receive only about 78% of scheduled benefits, meaning possible cuts of around 22%.
And in the middle of all this, new reports say Matt Zames, a former JPMorgan executive, is joining the Social Security Administration as an unpaid adviser to help modernize technology, reduce payment errors, and improve service. So is this real reform—or just an attempt to manage a crisis that is much bigger than technology?
In this video, we explain what the projected COLA increase means, why 4.7% is not guaranteed, how inflation drives the raise, what “Social Security insolvency” really means in 2032, and whether benefits would disappear or be reduced.
